The two first classes of the Iron Cross encompass four awards when the clasps to the 1914 crosses are included.  In large part to the duration of the conflict but also due to the desperate conditions in the end, these classes of the cross where awarded often en-mass.  They are the first layer and the foundation for the higher end of the pyramid, and they are what most collectors day can add repeatedly to their collecting coffers.
